I have had a huge crush on black doors for a while now. I have pinned lots of them over the past couple of years. I just think they look sharp and stunning! Apparently, black is the new white. So, with my recent remodel project, I have gotten brave enough the opportunity to paint my interior doors black. They are all finished and they are beautiful, if I do say so myself.
My other huge crush is on 5 panel doors. They are also known as “5 Panel Equal Doors”, “Mission Doors” and “5 Panel Horizontal Doors”. The old, original style doors can be found in Craftsman and Mission style homes from 100 years ago. I just love the look of these! Aren’t they cool?
Now, let’s talk about door frames!
I love white trim with black doors as shown in the photos below. That is the ideal look. Here are a few examples of my favorite pinned items…
I originally had white frames around the black doors, as shown.
However, my doors didn’t look right with a white frame because of the off-white cabinets next to them. Do you see what I mean?

Technically, the cabinets are “Old White” by Annie Sloan but they are very off-white. I love that paint color, by the way. Sorry… I’m getting distracted.
Back to the doors. I wanted to paint the door frames black but I had a bit of a conundrum on my hands (“CONUNDRUM”, my new favorite word, it matches it’s meaning very well), my conundrum was that the crown moulding and base boards were all white including the window trim. If I painted the door frames black, what would I do about the white moulding and baseboards?
So, I decided to do only the frame in black paint. Ahhhh! It’s okay because it goes to the floor, it’s not really flowing with the baseboard, see?
I love the black frame so much more and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the black doors.
I also painted the doors black in the mud room area. I kept the frame trim white in there, because all my cabinets in the mudroom are white so it coordinates perfectly. Aren’t these doors SHARP?
Next project – paint all of the doors in our house black! Just kidding, Steve. (Maybe)
