I adapted this recipe from the original Kitchenaid Pizza Dough recipe.
Ingredients:
1 package of active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons olive oil
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
Directions: Dissolve the package of yeast in the warm water. Add salt, olive oil and 2.5 cups of the flour. Attach dough hook to mixer bowl and mix on low speed for 1 minute. Then add remaining cup of flour, very slowly. Let dough continue to kneed on low speed for 2 minutes. Remove dough and place in a greased bowl ( I have a glass Kitchenaid bowl that works perfectly – photographed below) Cover with a paper towel or cloth and allow to sit in a warm place for about an hour. I find the perfect spot to be inside the microwave, with the surface light turned on. This is what my dough looked like before it went in the microwave…
This is what it looked like after it was in the microwave for an hour. The dough needs to be doubled.
Replace dough hook and kneed for 30 seconds.
Remove dough and place on a floured surface, form a ball, brush with oil and flatten the dough.
Then, use a pastry cutter to divide the dough into strips (as shown below)
Brush the tops of the strips with olive oil. Then sprinkle with garlic salt and parmesan cheese.
Twist the strips and place on a baking pan.
Bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve with marinara sauce.
This recipe can easily be adapted to make a pizza. The above pizza has the same crust as the breadsticks. Toppings are mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. These pizzas bake at 450 for 15-20 minutes.
This supreme pizza has turkey pepperoni, turkey sausage, sliced yellow and red bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, marinara and mozzarella cheese.
